Current genetic influences

Dominant sires that have stamped genetic characteristics and traits into the four types within our breeding program include

Our four breeding types have been influenced greatly by these dominate sires; stamping in repeatable traits aligning with our breeding goals of producing a balanced, dual purpose and uncomplicated sheep:

One Oak Poll sire Red-31 (R15031), his progeny and brothers (R15045 ) are breeding heavy cutting, long stapled medium wools with very correct robust frames, suitable for sheep/wheat areas.

One Oak Poll Sire 18010 (sold for $30,000) is breeding a good blend of white, heavy cutting, waxy wools on a dominate frame. 18010 has complimented the red tag family as well as our finer, white tag family, due to his quality wool and One Oak No.2 background.

Morundie Park Sire NE8-144, purchased from Sheepvention in 2019, has bred sons which we have used in our dual purpose, finer wool family, suitable for higher rainfall areas. This sire was joined across descendants of One Oak No.2 ewes and the white tag types.

Our finer white tag types are also producing a non-muelsing sheep with whiter quality wools. Sons and grandsons of LB14001 have been dominate within our white tag family. The white tag ewes are based on One Oak No.2 blood, with the the aim of breeding a dual purpose, fine medium wool type.

1990-2002 genetics

From 1990 to 2002, the main influences on the stud were through the use of semen from One Oak No.2 B32 (by Merriville Ringmaster sire) and Colllinsville Rambo. One Oak Poll sires Columbus and P37 (by B32) impacted on breeding the finer end of the stud, with two grandsons of P37 winning Grand Champion Poll Ram at Dubbo and Sydney.

One Oak Poll sires, Mr Ed and Arnie (both by Collinsvillle 540) and Terminator (by OOP sire Arnie) at that time, revolutionised our medium wools. In 1997, One Oak Poll sire “Mr Ed” won Grand Champion Poll Ram and Reserve Grand Champion Ram at Dubbo. This ram was used widely throughout the industry with positive results. Mr Ed, son of Collinsville sire 540 (Rambo), injected more size, correct structure and extra staple length into One Oak Poll genetics.

Wilimenup sires 32, 606 (Australian Ram of the Year, 2001) and “Sir Winston” (Australian Ram of the Year, 2002) were used to continue this type. Sir Winston had a significant influence in the stud during this time.
